Elbaz and Acne

Fashion Week Daily
reported yesterday that Alber Elbaz will be teaming up with Swedish Jean lable, Acne, to create some denim for Lanvin. Loving both Lanvin and Acne I am really excited to hear the news, but upon thinking, what kind of jeans are these going to be?

I think that despite concerns of the casual look of Acne bringing Lanvin down, both brands actually have a lot in common. They are both sophisticated, in their own ways, and each embodies a really nice simplicity. Acne jeans don't come embellished with crazy designs on the pockets or rips and strange washes. They are simple, beautifully cut jeans. Lanvin is luxurious but the pieces never look over-the-top expensive to me (save a few fur trimmed pieces). Particularily, the new fall line is simple and elegeant with very tasteful details incorporated. I think if the jeans stay simple and sophisticated, embodying the two brands (that is the point afterall, isn't it?) the jeans are going to be wonderful. They are said to come out in 2009 so we will have to wait until then...

Big Spring Shoes

This spring Marni and Chloe have brought us really great, big, chunky shoes to stomp around in the sun with. Even the flats have a grandeur quality to them with those big patent straps.

Les Praries Des Paris

Some very fun yet classy spring looks from Parisian label, Les Prairies Des Paris. Great solid colours and I love the coats. The designs are innovative but the end result looks very effortless. Nothing too high maintenance here.

TOGA

TOGA is Japanese designer Yasuko Furuta. Her fall 08 collection has an ecclectic mix of frabics and silhouettes. From baggy men's suits to cute skirts and military-esque tops to interesting little leather numbers, Furuta is never afraid of multiple layers of fabric, building her silhouettes up to what would usually be considered frumpy. However, by adding an accentuated waist or an innovated use of pleats, it allows the clothes to fit well and still maintain a loose, relaxed look, which I am all for.

MMM Bags & Clutches

I am really loving Maison Martin Margiela's spring bags and clutches. Made with frabics like leather, satin, and cork, there are some really interesting things going on. The giant satin shoulder bags are great for those of us who are pack rats and I can only imagine how nice it would feel to carry. I also love the knot and bow details throughout the collection, especially the sheer fabrics tied over the little white clutches. Oh yes, wallets made out of cork: Amazing.

Vanessa Bruno

Parisian designer Vanessa Bruno's spring 08 collection is so soft and charming. She treats her own natural fabrics, resulting in clothes, this season, that look like bright, flowing flowers. Bruno mixes light fabrics with heavier, darker ones, too create some sleeker looks and with the various, plunging necklines it stops the collection from being just plain pretty. From the clothes to the styling, this collection is all around delightful.
